Measuring the initial water level in your well when it's not actively being pumped.

1. Use a Well Sounder: A well sounder is a device specifically designed to measure the water level in a well. It typically consists of a probe that is lowered into the well, and a digital display that shows the water level. You can use a well sounder to measure the initial water level accurately.
2. Observe the Water Level: If you don't have access to a well sounder, you can observe the water level visually. Wait for a period of time when no water is being pumped from the well, and then carefully look inside the well casing. The water level should be visible, and you can estimate its position.

3. Use a Weighted String: Another option is to use a weighted string or tape measure. Attach a weight to the end of the string or tape and slowly lower it into the well until it makes contact with the water. Mark the string or tape at the top of the well casing, and when you pull it out, measure the distance from the mark to the weight. This will give you an approximate measurement of the initial water level.
